Sedation Dentistry in Spring Branch & Memorial, Houston, TX

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry at Lifeworks Dental involves the use of medication to help patients relax during dental procedures.

We offer two types of sedation: Nitrous Oxide and Oral Sedation

  • Nitrous Oxide, often referred to as “laughing gas,” is a safe and effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask that fits over your nose. It helps patients relax during their dental procedures. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off soon after the mask is removed, allowing patients to drive themselves home after the procedure.
  • Oral Sedation involves taking a prescribed medication, such as Valium, before your dental appointment. This medication helps you relax and may even make you feel drowsy. However, you’ll still be awake and able to respond to commands. Patients who choose oral sedation will need someone to drive them home after their appointment.

Benefits:

The purpose of sedation dentistry is to ensure that patients are comfortable and anxiety-free during their dental procedures. It’s particularly beneficial for patients who have high levels of dental anxiety, a low pain threshold, can’t sit still in the dentist’s chair, have sensitive teeth, have a bad gag reflex, or need a large amount of dental work completed.

Sedation dentistry allows these patients to receive the dental care they need in a relaxed and stress-free environment. If you’re interested in sedation dentistry for your next dental procedure, feel free to contact Lifeworks Dental at (713) 956-5433 to discuss your options.
